Salut! My name is
Houngan Dylan Nathair, and I am the head of La Sosyete Carrefour
Sacre. Growing up in the southern United States in a New
Orleanian family I was exposed to African diasporic beliefs and
customs from the time I was a young child. As a young boy I can
remember reading a book entitled "Gumbo Ya-Ya". This was the book
that sparked my interest in Vodou. I used to sit down for hours
trying to memorize the various charms and rituals listed in the
book. As a young adult I attended University and earned my
Baccalaureate of Science and eventually my Master of Arts in
Sociocultural Anthropology. While working on my Master's Degree I
conducted field research in Haiti and wrote my M.A. thesis on spirit
possession.
After growing up in a
family that often spoke of "Voodoo" and even used traditional
remedies from time-to-time, I decided to travel to Haiti to become
initiated into Haitian Vodou. In 2002 I traveled to Haiti
and was initiated as a Houngan asogwe by Bon Houngan Dye ki
Don (honor to him!). However, after working with Houngans and Mambos
in Jacmel Haiti for almost two years I decided I wanted to explore
the Vodou of Port-au-Prince. And in 2005 I reaffirmed my vows to
God, the lwa, and to Ginen and took my asson a second time from
Mambo Marie (honor to her!) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
After taking my asson
for the second time, this time from Mambo Marie, I began working to
provide clean and safe accommodations in Port-au-Prince for those
people who didn't live in Haiti and wanted to become an authentic
Houngan or Mambo. After securing a wonderful home in Petionville and
an amazing Peristyle in Port-au-Prince we started taking our
would-be children to Haiti for the kanzo ceremony. Assuming the
political situation in Haiti is safe we strive to take people to
Haiti twice a year to undergo the initiation ceremony and
become Houngans and Mambos!
I would like to once
again welcome you to our website. If you have any questions,
comments, or suggestions please don't hesitate to contact us here at
La Sosyete Carrefour Sacre, we would love to hear from
you!
